At some point in all of our lives we will come to a point where we may need to lose a few extra pounds. Those pounds could be from stress, having kids, a sedentary lifestyle, eating too much fast food, or just with age. As we get older, our metabolisms slow down, making it just a bit tougher to stay in shape.
Too often, as human beings we try to find the fastest, easiest way out of a problem, and there usually is a solution out there that falls into those two categories – especially with weight loss. There are a million fasts, fad diets and pills that promise fast results with little to no effort, but the truth is – those won’t last. The best way to lose weight is to take in less than you burn out. Easy enough right? Wrong – which is why so many people struggle with weight loss today. But there are ways to make it easier and help you reach your goals and actually succeed.
Take just a minute and envision what types of food you crave or think about when you are hungry. You doing it? Is it your mom’s favorite casserole, a nice juicy burger or a thick piece of cake? Hunger often triggers us to crave comfort foods , most often foods that are high in sugar, all too often leading us to binge on something unhealthy. The first step in helping you to achieve your weight loss is to change how you see food.
Food is what fuels our bodies. It is what keeps them working and going each day. And just like you only put certain types of gas in your car, you should be a bit more selective about what you eat. This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t enjoy eating and that you can’t ever have a treat. It just means you have to change your daily habits to make better choices. So to start, change how you see food.
One of the next best ways to lose weight is by eating five to six small meals each day. This helps keep your body full, providing you with constant energy and helps you avoid letting yourself get so hungry that you overeat. To help you accomplish this, start by keeping a food journal. Studies have shown that keeping a food journal doesn’t just aid weight loss, it turbo-charges it. Keeping a food journal can trump exercise habits, age and BMI. Here are some reasons why: Keeping a food journal helps you figure out how many calories you are actually consuming. It also helps cut down in between meal snacking because you have to write it down, keeping you accountable. No more sneaking in the mini candy bar. You will also see what food categories you are deficient in. Keeping a journal will give you an accurate picture of what you consume on a daily basis and help you adjust your eating habits to a healthier, well-balanced diet.
So we have talked about food, now we need to talk about activity. You have heard it before and as long as weight loss is your goal you will keep hearing it. Exercise is a vital part and one of the key ways to lose weight and best ways to lose weight fast. Exercise doesn’t have to be scary or complicated. You can start out slow – take the stairs instead of the elevator, or park farther away at the grocery store. Start by just adding ten to twenty minutes of sustained activity each day and build up from there. Sign yourself up for a race, or set a goal that will keep you motivated, something that you can work up to. Find yourself a work-out partner or take group classes. Find what works for you and do it.
There are a lot of products out there promising that they have the best way to lose weight quickly, but the truth is, none of those products will give you lasting results or keep the weight off in the long term. The best way to lose weight is to evaluate your current eating habits and change them where needed to create a well-balanced diet plan, and combine that with regular exercise. These two steps will not only help you lose weight, but will help you keep it off.
