The Sensible Way To Lose Weight After Pregnancy

You need to understand this from the very outset. Pregnancy is not exactly a tea party. It is a life changing phenomenon and even after you give birth to the baby it will take some time for your body to adjust to the hormonal and physical changes that took place in the nine months of pregnancy. Most women put on a lot of weight when they are pregnant. This is nothing to worry about because it is all part of the pregnancy experience. Most women are also in a hurry to lose weight and re-gain the trim figure they had before they got pregnant. If you are in this category, you need to understand clearly that losing weight after pregnancy will take some time.

A lot of women want to know how to lose weight after pregnancy fast and you cannot blame them. Carrying a lot of fat deposits around is not exactly fun. Moving around with a protruding tummy is not very cool either. Women who want to know how to lose weight after pregnancy need to have an action plan. The important thing is that this cannot be done overnight. It will take a few months or a number of weeks at least. How lose weight after pregnancy needs to be done carefully. Exercising almost immediately after childbirth is out of the question. If you have just put to bed, your body is still quite delicate. There is no point in placing your health at risk simply because you want to look good.

The first thing you need to know is that losing weight after pregnancy will take a number of steps. Some of these steps are easy but the other steps are quite challenging. The sensible thing to do in this situation is to begin with the easy steps. When you are in better physical shape you can move on to the more challenging steps.

You cannot start jogging immediately after you put to bed (even if you want to) but one thing you can do immediately is to breastfeed your baby. You may not know this but it is a fact that breastfeeding burns up to 500 calories per day. Breastfeed your baby and you will be killing a number of birds with just one stone. You will lose weight, the baby will be well-fed and you will develop that special bond between mother and child.

Another thing you can do immediately is to walk. Walk around as much as you can on the grounds of your home. Do your shopping by walking to nearby shops and walking back home. This is perfect exercise because it will not stress you. Meanwhile as you walk, you are losing weight and you are getting stronger by the day. You can also lose weight by taking care of your baby in a creative manner. Buy a stroller as soon as your baby is old enough for one. On good days, dress your child properly and push him or her around in the stroller. You actually burn more calories if you are pushing a stroller than you would if you are just walking.

By now, you have lost some pounds already but you are not happy with your figure yet. You want to know how to lose your muffin top because you are not very comfortable with it. Well, the reason you have a muffin top in the first place is that you were eating too much when you were pregnant. At that time, your excuse was that you were eating for two people. Now you are eating for just one person so you need to cut down on the quantity of food you eat every day. You may be surprised at how much weight you will lose by just eating the right foods.

If you want to lose weight by eating the right foods, the rules are easy to obey. Drink about 10-12 glasses of water per day. Cut out junk food and greasy snacks entirely. Eat whole grains, fruits nuts and lean meats. Remember that you are breastfeeding your baby so you cannot afford to starve. The key to success here is to eat healthy food and avoid unhealthy foods which have nothing but empty calories.

So far, you have taken all the easy steps. You have lost some weight and you are much stronger. You are now ready for the more challenging steps. If you really want to get back your pre-pregnancy figure, you have two options. You can work out at home or you can join a gym. If you work out at home, hire a trainer to guide you on safe and effective training methods. If you join a gym, make sure you join a gym for people like you who are kind of “recovering” from pregnancy. You can compare notes, laugh at each other and generally have fun as you work out.

These are the steps to take for people like you who want to lose weight after pregnancy. As you can see, there are no gimmicks and no magic formulas here. Losing weight after pregnancy is a matter of time and effort. It is also matter of applying the sensible and safe approach.

This article is spot on. I just had my first baby 11 months ago and I gained 65 pounds while I was pregnant. Thankfully, right after she was born I immediately went down about twenty pounds. The rest has been a slow battle. I am no stranger to a healthy diet, but I am not a fan of exercise. This article was very realistic, and pointed out that it took time to gain the weight and it’s going to take time to get rid of it. Thank you for this!

I was hooked as soon as I read the word sensible. It’s very depressing to read magazines claiming a celebrity lost all her baby weight in two or three weeks. As your article explains, there are a number of steps in losing post pregnancy pounds. Sensible eating, exercise and a good plan combine to give great results.
