The Tuna And Water Diet

by Mel on August 22, 2012

The tuna diet plan is a three day quick weight loss plan for anyone who wants to kick start a diet, or lose five to ten pounds quickly for an event. The tuna diet is very restrictive and not recommended for use long term. Most of the weight that is shed on the tuna and water diet is water weight, and will creep back on as soon as you return to eating normal foods. The tuna diet weight loss plan does not just include tuna and water; you are able to consume some other foods.

Water and Tuna Diet: A Typical Plan

Day One

Breakfast

• Black coffee or tea (may use artificial sweetener, no sugar, no creamer)

• 5 Saltine crackers

• 1 ounce cheese

• 1 apple

Lunch

• 1 hardboiled egg

• 1 piece wheat toast

Dinner

• 1 cup albacore tuna packed in water

• 1 cup carrots

• 1 cup cauliflower

• 1 cup melon

• 1/2 cup regular vanilla ice cream

Day Two

Breakfast

• Black coffee or tea (may use artificial sweetener, no sugar, no creamer)

• 1/2 grapefruit

• 1 piece wheat toast with 1 Tablespoon creamy peanut butter

Lunch

• 1 cup cottage cheese or tuna

• 8 Saltine crackers

Dinner

• 3 ounces chicken or tuna

• 1 cup green beans

• 1 cup carrots

• 1 apple

• 1 cup regular vanilla ice cream

Day Three

Breakfast

• Black coffee or tea (may use artificial sweetener, no sugar, no creamer)

• 1 egg

• 1/2 banana

• 1 piece wheat toast

Lunch

• 1/2 cup tuna

• 1 piece wheat toast

Dinner

• 2 beef hotdogs

• 1 cup broccoli

• 1/2 cup carrots

• 1/2 banana

• 1/2 cup regular vanilla ice cream

Inventors caution that the above menu must be followed to the letter — with no substitutions or additions — to achieve a weight loss between five and ten pounds. Drink eight, 8 oz. glasses of water each day. No other beverages are allowed besides water, tea and black coffee. Coffee creamer or milk is strictly prohibited.

Why it Works

Since the above menu gives people about 1,000 calories per day, and restricts most complex carbohydrates, it will allow people to shed water weight. Anyone in need of losing weight quick to fit into a special dress, or for a special event, this is a decent quick fix diet. Dieters should know that it would be impossible to maintain any weight lost once the diet is over and you return to eating normally.

The Tuna Diet Weight Loss Risks

No matter how you look at it, the tuna diet weight loss will be fleeting. People tend to overeat more when they come off a diet like this, because it is so restrictive, than they would a normal diet. Consequently, people return to their familiar ways of eating, which packs the pounds and water weight back on quickly.

The average human body stores carbs as a molecule called glycogen, which lives in your muscles and liver. Depending on how much the dieter weighs, an average person can store about 2,000 calories of carbohydrates. If you are sedentary, and do not exercise, a low carb diet may not affect you as extremely as an active person. Active people who eat low carb can burn through their glycogen stores in as little as two days. This will cause energy crashes and stress on your kidneys, as your body sheds water and exhaustion. Low carb diets also wreak havoc on muscle recovery for exercisers. Glycogen is the fuel that helps guard against muscle fatigue and strain. A low carb dieter will find they are simply exhausted at the end of a workout, and can remain sore for days after a simple jog on the treadmill. Low carb diets also zap potassium levels and can cause muscle cramping, including painful nighttime charley horses.

Choose Healthy Habits

A diet rich in fiber, fruits and vegetables is the best way to reach long-term weight loss goals. Additionally, living an active lifestyle, which includes exercising 30 to 60 minutes each day, promotes greater weight loss and helps stave the symptoms of aging. Any diet that restricts entire food groups is not recommended for weight loss. Diets that are restrictive cannot be maintained over long periods of time. Diets like ones low in carbohydrates only manage to keep weight off if you remove all carbs from your diet. As soon as you return to eating bread, pasta and rice — weight will slowly and surely creep back on. Doctors recommend starting a diet plan, which restricts calories without restricting foods. People should shoot for losing one to three pounds per week — as that is a healthy rate of weight loss. Losing more than three pounds per week is usually the result of water loss.

@kj – Yes you can use them together, however, a product like eAC that delivers energy and helps curb appetite specifically may be a better fit.
