5 HTP And Healthy Weight Loss

by Gabriella Patel on March 1, 2016

My metabolism began to slow down as I moved into my thirties, and eating like I did when I was younger began to have a noticeable effect on my weight.Sunshine Vitamin D I tried a variety of weight loss solutions, but drinking herbal tea, eliminating certain foods, and reducing my portion size did not seem to work. I tried to exercise as often as possible, but my hectic work schedule got in the way most of the time. I decided to find a safe dietary supplement to help keep my weight under control, and 5-htp seemed to be a good option.

Data from the U.S. National Institutes of Health and ClinicalTrials.gov included many references about the effectiveness of 5 htp on mood and food intake. Many lengthy studies showed that daily consumption of 5-htp supplements lowered food intake and resulted in appreciable weight loss. The Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database contained encouraging information about 5-htp and weight loss as well. The University of Maryland mentioned several clinical studies that focused on 5-htp and obesity, and the recommended daily dosage for an individual outside of a clinical trial seemed like a reasonable plan. I always managed to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner despite my changing schedule, and this is why taking 50 milligrams of 5-htp before each meal seemed like something I could incorporate into my daily life.

Supplemental 5 htp seemed to create an overall feeling of satisfaction in many test subjects, and feeling full may be crucial to lowering appetite and promoting healthy weight loss. In 1992 the Journal of Clinical Nutrition referenced several double-blind studies that focused on 5-htp, and the findings from these studies supported the effectiveness of taking 5 htp supplements for weight loss. Taking 50 milligrams of 5-htp twenty minutes before each meal may reduce cravings for carbohydrates, and this information was especially important to me. My cravings for carbohydrates seemed to hinder my attempts at portion control, so this finding made me eager to try 5 htp supplements.

Many studies caution against using 5 htp if you are pregnant, nursing, or younger than eighteen. Supplemental 5-htp may be a health hazard if you have diabetes or circulatory problems, but many other people may be able to add 5 htp into their normal dietary routine. I experienced a mild and temporary amount of gastrointestinal upset in the beginning, but taking 5 htp seems to be working for me.

From what I've seen most of where the problems come from is what we put in our bodies, and what we're not. I hope to shed some light on many issues we all face.
