Magazines are advertising five- and ten-minute workouts to get you into shape, but have you ever wondered if they really work? Is it possible to get fit and lose weight with a simple 10 minute workout? If you do short workouts regularly, they can be an effective way to improve your fitness levels and to burn calories. In fact it is better to do a 10 minute workout every day than to do just one long session once a week.

Even short exercise sessions have many health benefits, and you can plan your workouts depending on your goals. If your goal is simply to get healthier and fitter, do one or more short exercise sessions each day: before going to work, during your lunch break or at home in the evening. If you are thinking about weight loss, add cardiovascular work such as treadmill or exercise bike sessions. If you want a more toned body, add strength training and weights. If you really want to get fit and burn calories, try high intensity interval training that alternates short intense exercise sessions with low effort workouts.
