Say goodbye to those post-vacation diets! It’s easy to stay in shape while on vacation by staying active and eating healthy. Vacation is a great time to forget about the stress of work and school, but not the best time to forget about working out.Many people complain about feeling bloated during vacation or having to go on a huge diet once they get home. You can definitely avoid those vacation blues by doing small activities that will make a big difference. Beat the vacation workout slump by following these tips for staying active during your next vacation!

 

Run on Location: One of the best ways to experience a new environment is to go out and explore. Use your free time in the morning before the day’s activities or in the late afternoon before dinner to do a quick run. If you’re near a coast, beach runs or local trails are great ways to work out while taking advantage of your vacation spot. During your run scout out other workout opportunities like public tennis courts or swimming pools as well! Take out a map…or don’t! You end up seeing parts of a city you normally wouldn’t. Pop in some good music or take in the sounds of the city. Before you go out, always remember to check the safe areas of town.

 

Workout in Your Hotel: Just because you’re stuck in a hotel doesn’t mean you can’t stay active! If your hotel doesn’t have a gym, try doing some simple exercises to get your blood pumping and break a sweat. Begin with a warm of jumping jacks, lunges, and high knees to get your heart rate up. Next move into your workout that may could consist of body weight squats, push-ups, star jumps, burpees, or planks. Don’t forget to do some stretching and cool down when you finish!

Pack Equipment if you would like. Chances are, that if you bring it with you in your suitcase, there is a good chance you’ll use it. Pack some resistance bands with you. They’re lightweight and don’t take up much room. You can use them on the plane, in the airport, or in your hotel room.

 

Eat Healthy: It will definitely help you feel great and make your workouts more successful. Eating healthy may sound like a no-brainer, but it is often hard to eat well on vacation like you normally would at home. An important step for feeling better on vacation is avoiding inflammatory foods that induce bloating and discomfort. Inflammatory foods may contain trans fats, excess sugar, and dairy. Trade in white breads and pastas, burgers, and other processed foods for lean meats and vegetables. You’ll feel much more prepared to do fun activities if your body is happy and healthy.

 

Pack Snacks / Plan ahead: It’s easy to fall off of your eating plan when the only things available are croissants and bagels. While you can’t plan ahead for every meal, you can bring some snacks to help you in times of need. Some examples are apples, bananas, almonds, walnuts, and protein bars. And when faced with the tough choice of what cocktail to choose, try to choose a low-sugar drink.
