The Best Anti Aging Foods

Antioxidants are often mentioned when talking about anti aging supplements and products. The body’s normal aging process is sped up by free radicals, substances that are created through normal body functions but that also come from the environment, from UV radiation and from smoking. Antioxidants can prevent free radicals from causing damage in the body’s cells. The three main anti aging antioxidants are selenium and vitamins C and E.

Vitamin E is probably the most important antioxidant. It protects the cells and helps to inactivate free radicals. Vitamin E supplements are widely available, and foods that are the best sources for vitamin E include avocado, sunflower seeds and sunflower oil, other cold-pressed vegetable oils, almonds and nuts.

Vitamin C is important for preventing and repairing free radical damage to the skin. Vitamin C is found in most vegetables and fruits, especially citrus fruits. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables daily, including leafy green vegetables.

Selenium helps to maintain elasticity in the tissues and to slow down the aging process in the cells. You can get selenium from seafood, eggs, Brazil nuts and whole grains.
