What Are The Health Benefits Of Yogurt?

Natural live yogurt has countless health benefits and is low in calories. It contains protein, calcium, B vitamins including B12, magnesium and potassium. It is also rich in probiotics, so-called “friendly bacteria” that keep your digestive system healthy.

Pro biotics exist naturally in the digestive system and their job is to make sure there is a healthy balance of bacteria in the intestines. You can lose some of your naturally existing good bacteria if you take antibiotics, for example, and in these cases doctors often recommend probiotic supplements to increase the amount of healthy bacteria in the system. Probiotic supplements and foods, such as yogurt, are natural remedies for diarrhea, constipation, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and other stomach problems. Probiotics are also thought to boost the immune system and help recovery from an infection.

There are different types of probiotic bacteria but most types have similar health benefits. Some of the most common varieties include bifidobacterium and lactobacillus. All yogurt is made with live cultures and contains healthy bacteria, but extra live cultures are sometimes added to yogurt to increase its health benefits.
